Cheverny is a commune in the French department of Loir-et-Cher, located in the administrative region of Centre-Val de Loire. It is most known for the Château de Cheverny, a stately home that has been in the same family for over six centuries. The Château is considered as one of the most beautifully furnished castles in the Loire Valley. It’s renowned for its interiors and its collection of furniture, tapestries and art.
The vineyards of Cheverny are also famous; they produce both red and white wines which are highly appreciated by wine enthusiasts. Cheverny is also a popular destination for outdoor activities including hunting, golfing, horse riding, and fishing. The village itself is quaint and pretty, with a number of community festivals, markets, and cultural events happening throughout the year. It is one of the visited spots for those touring the famous castles of Loire Valley in France.
In addition, the Château de Cheverny is famous for another reason: it is said to be the inspiration for Moulinsart in the Tintin books by Hergé. A permanent exhibition, "The Secrets of Moulinsart", is dedicated to Tintin in the castle's grounds.
