Costières de Nîmes is a wine region in the Rhône wine area of France. Located in the southernmost part of the Rhône Valley, Costières de Nîmes was officially recognized as an appellation in 1986, although the region has a long history of viticulture dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans.
This region is known for producing red, white, and rosé wines, but red wines dominate production with over half of the output dedicated to reds. The red and rosé wines are generally made from a blend of grapes, including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault and Marselan. White wines, a lesser part of production, usually consist of Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, and Roussanne.
The terroir of Costières de Nîmes is characterized by its hot Mediterranean climate, its soils of pebbles over a subsoil of red clay, and the influence of the Mistral wind, all of which add character to the wines produced in this region.
