Vacqueyras is a small village located in the Vaucluse department in the southeastern region of France. It is particularly known for its wine, as it is a part of the prestigious Côtes du Rhône wine region. In fact, Vacqueyras was the second Côtes du Rhône village to be granted its own AOC (Appellation d'origine contrôlée, a certification for French agricultural products) in 1990, acknowledging the high quality of its wine.
The wines of Vacqueyras are often deep, full-bodied, and rich, typically featuring flavors of blackberry, plum, and a touch of earthiness. The vineyards are predominantly planted with Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre grapes.
The village of Vacqueyras itself is quaint and charming, with a medieval church, charming alleys, and stone houses. The beautiful landscape, framed by the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range, and the warm Mediterranean climate add to the charm of this region.
In addition to wine, Vacqueyras is also known for its olive groves and fruit orchards, adding to the region's agricultural richness.
