Tavel is a village in Southern Rhône in the southeast of France and is primarily known for its wine production. It is particularly famous for producing some of the best rosé wines in the world. Unlike most rosé wines that are known for being light and crisp, Tavel wines are fuller-bodied and known for their spicy and rich fruity flavors.
This wine district comprises around 960 hectares of vineyards and around 50 individual wine producers. Tavel is unique because it only produces rosé wines and has a distinguished history since it was favored by several Popes in Avignon as well as famous literary figures like Honoré de Balzac.
The Tavel village itself is quaint and charming, characterized by traditional stone houses, a beautiful old church and lovely views of the surrounding vineyards and countryside. It's a popular destination for wine enthusiasts looking to explore the famous vineyards and taste the high-quality Tavel rosé.
