Côte de Beaune is a key wine-producing area in the Burgundy region of eastern France. Named after the town of Beaune, it is located on the slopes of a limestone hill stretching from Ladoix-Serrigny in the north to Cheilly-lès-Maranges in the south.
Côte de Beaune is primarily known for its white wines made from Chardonnay grapes, although it also produces red wines from Pinot Noir grapes. The area has several prestigious vineyard sites (climats), many of which are classed as Premier Cru or Grand Cru, the top classifications in Burgundy.
Despite being smaller than its neighbor, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune produces a greater variety of wines due to its diverse soil types and microclimates. Some of the most notable appellations within Côte de Beaune include Aloxe-Corton, Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Chassagne-Montrachet.
The region's wines are celebrated for their elegance, complexity and longevity. White wines from Côte de Beaune are often characterized by their rich aromas, vibrant acidity and notes of honey, nuts, butter, and fresh fruit, while the reds are known for their depth, concentration, and aromas of red fruit and spices.
