Clos de La Roche is a Grand Cru appellation for red wine in the Côte de Nuits district of Burgundy, France. It is situated in the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis. The vineyard covers a total area of almost 17 hectares.
The wine produced from this vineyard is almost entirely Pinot Noir, with less than a fifth made up of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris authorized, although this is rarely used.
The name "Clos de La Roche" translates as "vineyard of the rock", referring to the craggy, stony topology of the site. The limestone-rich soils in the vineyard, along with the ideal climate, are believed to contribute to the specific qualities of the wine produced here.
Clos de La Roche is renowned for producing some of the boldest and deepest-colored wines in Burgundy. The wines from this vineyard are generally rich and robust, with notable tannic structure, and while they can be quite showy in their youth, they also have excellent aging potential. The wines typically present flavors of black fruits with earthy undertones, and a notable mineral streak.
