Chevalier-Montrachet is a French wine appellation in the Burgundy region that is known for producing some of the finest and most expensive dry white wines in the world. Located in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, the region is relatively small, covering only about eight hectares.
The wines produced here are made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes and are known for their complex flavors and incredible aging potential. They are often characterized by their elegance, luxuriousness, and richness, with distinctive notes of honey, hazelnut, buttery brioche, and vibrant minerality. To fully appreciate the complexity and balance of these wines, they are typically recommend to be aged for a minimum of five to ten years.
The vineyards of Chevalier-Montrachet face a southeasterly direction and are situated near the top of the slope where the soil is shallow and rocky, providing excellent drainage for the vines. Due to the prestigious nature and limited quantity of wine produced in this appellation, the prices are often quite high but for those who appreciate the nuances of a grand cru white Burgundy, many would argue it's worth the investment.
