Bourgogne Aligoté is a white wine produced in the Burgundy region of France, made from the Aligoté variety of grape. It is often overshadowed by the more prestigious Chardonnay-based wines from the same region, but has gained recognition for its distinctive character and versatility.
This wine is known for its high acidity and crisp, fresh flavors, often featuring notes of green apple, lemon, and pear. Because of its tartness, Bourgogne Aligoté is traditionally served with a crème de cassis to create a drink known as Kir.
Its vines are usually planted in less-favorable locations, on the tops and bottoms of the slopes where the more coveted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes are grown. Despite this, Bourgogne Aligoté still delivers a pleasant and affordable drinking experience.
Bourgogne Aligoté wines can be drunk young, but they also have the ability to age, developing more complex flavors over time. They pair well with grilled fish, shellfish, goat cheese, and salads.
