Saint Estephe is a wine-producing region in Bordeaux, France, renowned for its robust, deeply colored, and full-bodied red wines, primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. It is the northernmost of Bordeaux's most notable wine districts and encompasses five classified growths, including two second growths, Cos d'Estournel and Montrose. Its soil, comprised mostly of gravel and clay, is ideal for vine growth and drains very well. The wines from this region are known for their firm structure, tannins and ability to age extremely well, with elegant aromas and flavors that can often show hints of truffle, violets, blackcurrant and even chocolate. Saint Estephe is also known for being home to historic chateaux and vineyards.
