Crémant d'Alsace is a sparkling wine produced in the Alsace region of France. The term "crémant" refers to French sparkling wines made outside of the Champagne region, following strict quality regulations.
This bubbly delight is usually made from Pinot Blanc, but can also include Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling or Chardonnay. It is made using the traditional method (the same method used for making Champagne), which involves a secondary fermentation in the bottle followed by ageing on lees, which creates complexity and fine, persistent bubbles.
In terms of taste, Crémant d'Alsace is known for being fresh and fruity with a vibrant acidity, making it an ideal choice for celebrations, as an aperitif, or paired with a variety of dishes. It's often lower in alcohol content compared to other sparkling wines and typically has flavours of apple, pear, lemon, almond, and sometimes a touch of honey, brioche or toast.
Though less famous than Champagne, Crémant d'Alsace has been gaining recognition for its high quality and excellent value. It offers a fantastic alternative for those who enjoy sparkling wine but may want to explore beyond the classic Champagne.
