Alsace Tokay-Pinot Gris is a white wine produced in the Alsace region of France. The wine is made from the Pinot Gris grape and is known for its rich, spicy, and full-bodied flavor profile. Alsace Tokay-Pinot Gris is generally a dry wine, although there are some sweeter versions available.
The wine has a bright shade of yellow and often features notes of honey, ripe pears, apples, and fresh floral scents. Sometimes, there can also be hints of tropical fruits like mango and pineapple. On the palate, it can taste quite rich and coating with a long-lasting aftertaste.
The term "Tokay" in the name is a historic misnomer. It was once thought that the Pinot Gris grape was related to the Hungarian Tokaji wine, therefore the name. However, the use of "Tokay" was dropped in 2007 after an agreement with Hungary, and now the wine is simply referred to as Pinot Gris.
Alsace Tokay-Pinot Gris pairs wonderfully with rich, fatty meats like duck, game, and pork. It's also an excellent match for spicy and aromatic Asian dishes or blue cheeses. This wine has a good aging potential, especially for the high-quality versions. Some can age up to a decade or more, developing more complex flavors over time.
