Oryahovitsa is a town in northern Bulgaria, located in the Veliko Tarnovo Province. Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport, known by the code GCAO, is a public airport located on the outskirts of the city. This airport does not currently support commercial flights and is primarily used for charter flights, flying lessons, air sports, cargo transportation, and emergency medical services.
The airport has one operational paved runway and is equipped with night lighting, making it functional for flights round the clock. It also has one terminal building, which includes facilities such as a café and a customs area.
Throughout its history, the airport has primarily served as a military base and a cargo transportation hub. Despite numerous attempts, regular passenger flights have not been established. However, it plays an important role in the regional air connectivity, and there are often discussions about potentially expanding its operations in the future.
