Burgenland is one of the nine provinces or states that make up the country of Austria. It is the easternmost and least populous province of Austria, with a population of just over 294,000 as of 2021. Burgenland spans an area of about 3,965 square kilometers and its capital is Eisenstadt.
The region borders Slovakia to the northeast, Hungary to the east, Slovenia to the south, and the Austrian states of Styria and Lower Austria to the west. The unique geographical location lends to a pleasant, mild climate suitable for viticulture, leading to a flourishing wine industry in the region.
Burgenland is renowned for its natural beauty, comprising of gently rolling hills, serene meadows, beautiful lakes and dense forests. The Neusiedler See, a large lake situated in the province, is a major tourist attraction and a UNESCO world heritage site, offering a host of recreational activities like bird watching, biking, sailing and windsurfing.
