Lower Galilee is a region located in northern Israel, to the south of Upper Galilee, and the north of Samaria. The region is so named due to its lower altitude compared to the Upper Galilee.
It has a diverse landscape with mountains in the east, and valleys and flat areas in the west. The region is home to the fertile Jezreel Valley, well-known for its arable lands, and Mount Tabor, a significant Christian pilgrimage site believed by many to be the site of the Transfiguration of Jesus.
The region has a rich history which goes back thousands of years with many significant Biblical events believed to have taken place there. The city of Nazareth, known as the childhood home of Jesus, is located in Lower Galilee.
The population of Lower Galilee is a mix of Jews, Christians, Muslims, and Druze, making it culturally diverse. The region has a mild Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers, and cool, wet winters. Agriculture, particularly the growing of olives, wheat, and fruit, is a major part of the economy in Lower Galilee. There is also a growing tourism sector, with visitors drawn to the area’s religious, historical, and natural attractions.
