Bell Mountain is a notable peak located in Towns County, Georgia in the United States. Standing approximately 3,424 feet high, it is recognized for its stunning panoramic views at the summit. It provides spectacular views of Lake Chatuge, the town of Hiawassee, and miles of forests and mountains.
The mountain is also known for the bell-shaped profile it presents when viewed from a distance, hence its name. In the 1960s, an error led the mountain to be heavily mined for its granite, leaving a large hollow area at the summit.
In recent years, Towns County took over the property and converted it into a heritage site, creating an observation area at the top for visitors to enjoy the views. The journey to the top of the mountain includes a steep, winding drive followed by a short hike.
One of the unique aspects of Bell Mountain is the graffiti that decorates the rock face at the summit. It’s a local tradition to leave painted messages or art on the rocks. While some find it controversial, it has become a part of the mountain's modern identity.
