Lake Michigan Shore is a region in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Michigan, known for its vineyards and wine production. Here, the Lake Michigan Shore American Viticultural Area is located, which benefits from the moderating effects of the lake – the "lake effect" – that makes the region particularly conducive for growing varietals of wine grapes.
In terms of geography, Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America and the only one located entirely within the United States. The eastern part of the lake, including the entire Lake Michigan Shore, belongs to Michigan.
Its shoreline is characterized by sandy beaches, bluffs, and dunes, punctuated by numerous towns and cities. The lake's cool, clean waters make it a popular destination for fishing, boating, and swimming.
