Connecticut is the southernmost state in the New England region of the United States. It is bordered by Rhode Island to the east, Massachusetts to the north, and New York to the west and south. The state capital is Hartford and the largest city is Bridgeport. Connecticut is the third smallest state by area and the 29th most populous.
Connecticut's nickname is the "Constitution State", due to its influential role in the development of the federal government of the United States. It was in the town of Windsor that the first constitution, the "Fundamental Orders," was written in 1639, becoming the first written constitution in North America.
The state has a diverse economy with strong sectors in finance, insurance, manufacturing, health services, and education. Yale University, one of the most prestigious universities in the world, is located in New Haven, Connecticut.
