Adelaida District is an AVA (American Viticultural Area) located in the western part of Paso Robles, California. Spanning approximately 32,000 acres, it is known for its high elevation and microclimate that makes it an ideal location for growing premium Rhône, Bordeaux, and Burgundy grape varietals. The region has a higher average temperature and less rainfall compared to other areas within the larger Paso Robles AVA.
With well-drained, calcareous soils rich in limestone and a maritime influence from the Pacific Ocean, the region is popular for its high-quality wine production. The wineries in the Adelaida District are well-respected and attract a considerable number of wine enthusiasts and tourists each year. Besides vineyards, this region is home to walnut and almond orchards as well.
The district was officially recognized and added to the list of AVAs in 2014, adding further prestige and recognition to the vineyards situated in the area. The winemaking history of the Adelaida District dates back to the 18th century when Franciscan missionaries planted the first vineyards in the region. Today, it hosts several of Paso Robles' most famous wineries like Tablas Creek Vineyard, Justin Vineyards and Winery, and Adelaida Vineyards & Winery.
