The Spring Mountain District is a renowned agricultural region located on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, which separate Napa Valley from Sonoma County, California, USA. It was designated an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1993 and is known for its distinctive wines, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay.
The winegrowing area lies between 400 and 2,600 feet above sea level, encompassing approximately 8,600 acres, with around 1,000 acres actually under vine. The district features a combination of steep terraced slopes, cool climate, and significant diurnal temperature swings, which contribute to producing grapes with intense, complex flavors.
The wineries in Spring Mountain District are known for their small production volumes, exquisite handcrafted wines, and unique visitor experiences. They include several family-operated establishments, boutique winegrowers, and artisan producers.
