The Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley is a renowned wine-growing region located within the larger Napa Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) in California, USA. It is situated in the southern region of Napa Valley, stretching from Napa city to the base of Mt. Veeder. The district is approximately 8,300-acres in size, with about 3,600 acres dedicated to vineyards.
The Oak Knoll District is known for its diverse microclimates and a wide variety of soil types. Its unique location and moderate climate make it an ideal wine-growing region suited to a large variety of grapes. It includes both cool growing conditions near the city of Napa, as well as warmer locations closer to the Mayacamas Mountains.
Oak Knoll's vineyards are particularly known for their Merlot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines of exceptional quality. However, the district cultivates around 33 different varieties, giving it the most diverse grape selection of any Napa Valley appellation.
The viticultural area was established in 2004, but the area's winemaking history dates back to the 19th century. Despite its expansive size, Oak Knoll is home to relatively few wineries and vineyards compared to other Napa regions, making it a lesser-known, but equally valuable part of Napa Valley's wine country.
