Mount Veeder is a prominent mountain located in the Mayacamas Mountains of Napa County, California, United States. It is named after Emil Veeder, an early settler who arrived in the area around 1850. One of the county's prominent geographic features, it reaches a peak height of about 2,677 feet (816 m), making it one of the highest peaks in the county of Napa. The mountain is primarily known for its association with the wine industry. The high altitude, combined with the cool coastal climate, create unique growing conditions which are ideal for certain types of wine grapes. The "Mount Veeder Appellation," established in 1990, is home to several vineyards and wineries including the famed Hess Collection Winery. Here, vineyards are planted at elevations of up to 2,600 feet, making them among the highest vineyards in California. The wines produced from the grapes grown on Mount Veeder often bear the distinctive characteristics of the terroir, with a rich and intense flavor profile.
