Tinto Cao

The Tinto Cao varietal is a red wine grape mostly found in Portugal. It’s known for its low yield yet higher quality wine production. The vine is somewhat difficult to cultivate due to its sensitivity to various diseases and pests. Tinto Cao has been part of the Douro Valley’s wine production for centuries. The grape is used in the production of rich and aromatic Port wines and can also be found in red table wines. The Tinto Cao varietal grapes typically add longevity and finesse to the blend of wines and impart flavors of black fruits and exotic spices, often balanced by a high acid content.
