The Tinta Madeira varietal is a red wine grape used primarily in the production of fortified Madeira wines. It is grown almost exclusively on the Portuguese island of Madeira, from which it gets its name. Tinta Madeira is known for its ability to maintain high acid levels even in warm climates, which is essential for producing balanced Madeira wines. When matured, it produces wines with intense, rich flavors with notes often including dried fruits, caramel, toffee, and nuts. These wines are also highly valued for their exceptional longevity. However, it is less common and not as frequently used as other Madeira varietals like Sercial or Bual.
