Mammolo is a red grape variety native to Tuscany, Italy. It is often used as a blending grape in several Tuscan wines, including Chianti and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
Mammolo is known for its intense aromas of violets and morello cherries. When used in wine, it contributes these aromas and also provides a softening effect to other varieties it's blended with.
Wines made from Mammolo tend to have a medium body with moderate acidity and tannins. While this varietal is most commonly used in blends, some producers also create single-varietal Mammolo wines, which are appreciated for their floral and fruity characteristics.
Mammolo isn't a very widespread variety, as it's challenging to grow; it has low yields and is susceptible to various grape diseases. Nevertheless, because of its unique characteristics, it's treasured by many Italian winemakers.
