Landot Noir is a hybrid red wine grape variety that is primarily grown in cooler climates. This grape varietal is a cross between Villard noir and Seyve Villard grape breeds, developed in France in the mid-20th century.
The variety uniquely adapts to cold climates and is therefore prevalent in regions of the United States, such as Ohio and New York, and in Canada. Landot Noir is also known for its early ripening characteristics.
The wine produced from these grapes is characterized by a soft, balanced acidity, medium to full body, and rich color. It showcases flavors akin to black or red fruit, like cherries, plums or blackberries, often with subtle herbaceous and earthy notes. Because of the grape’s high sugar content, the wine can be produced in both dry and off-dry styles.
