Counoise is a red wine grape variety that originates from the Rhône wine region in France. Its wines are known for their bright, vibrant fruit and high acidity, balanced out by medium body and low to moderate tannins. The dominant flavors often include fresh strawberries, red cherries, and herbaceous notes such as green pepper and thyme. It is most typically found as a blending grape in Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines but can be found as a varietal wine as well. Despite its French origins, it has also found success in the New World, particularly in California.
