Cabernet Merlot

Cabernet Merlot is a blended wine varietal that combines two main types of grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This blend is quite popular in the Bordeaux region of France.

The Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure, acidity and tannins to the blend, while Merlot adds softness, texture, and a fruity characteristic.

The blend often has bold flavors of red and black fruit like cherries, blackberry, and plum along with spicy or earthy notes. The taste can also include undertones of vanilla and cedar due to aging in oak barrels.

The balance in this wine blend between the structured Cabernet Sauvignon and softer, plush Merlot makes it very appealing and approachable. This makes it a great fit for red meat dishes, cheese, and complex sauces.

Specific characteristics can change depending on where the grapes are grown and how the wine is made. For example, Bordeaux blends tend to be earthier while a New World like California or Australia will often be fruitier.
