Wollombi Village Vineyard
Wollombi Village Vineyard is the brainchild of Alan and Maria Roe, a husband-and-wife team with a vision. In 1988, they purchased a vacant plot of land in the heart of historic Wollombi, a charming town seemingly untouched by time. Their goal? To create something that would draw in tourists and add to the allure of this unique village.
The first step towards their dream was taken in October 1996 when they planted a paddock of Chardonnay vines, followed by Shiraz in 1999. Alan and Maria aimed to emulate the traditional family-run vineyards of the Hunter Valley, infused with a touch of Mediterranean flair, reflecting Maria's Italian heritage. Today, the vineyard produces a delightful selection of Chardonnay, Shiraz, and Rosé wines.
On September 9th, 2006, Wollombi Village Vineyard proudly opened the doors of its Cellar Door. While they anticipated strong sales, the demand for their wines exceeded all expectations. By the end of the day, only four bottles of their specialty limoncello remained!
The overwhelming popularity of their authentic Italian family recipes, "limoncello di Wollombi" (Italian lemon liqueur) and "limoncello alla crema di Wollombi" (Italian lemon cream liqueur), inspired Alan and Maria to expand their offerings. They introduced a range of delectable liqueurs, including dolzetto (fortified wine) in both red and white varieties – even offering them in beautiful Bendigo Pottery crocks to raise funds for the historic St John's Anglican Church. Their collection also features amaroe, a bitter-sweet digestive liqueur, a variety of seasonal fruit liqueurs, and the caffe range of coffee liqueurs.
