Skimmerhorn Winery and Vineyard
Skimmerhorn Winery invites guests to indulge in a complimentary tasting of their diverse wine portfolio. The winery offers seated tastings on a picturesque patio that overlooks the vineyard with stunning views of the Skimmerhorn mountain range. For those who prefer, indoor stand-up tastings can be arranged in the wine shop upon request. The patio also provides a delightful setting to savor their new charcuterie menu paired with a favorite glass of Skimmerhorn wine.
While the patio is currently closed for the season, guests are encouraged to call (250) 428-4911 to schedule a tasting or purchase wine. It's important to note that the tasting area is exclusively outdoors, so dressing for the weather is recommended. Wheelchair access can also be arranged by calling in advance.
Established in the early 2000s in Creston, British Columbia, Skimmerhorn Estate Winery boasts a 20-acre property with over 17 acres dedicated to grapevines. Planted in 2003, the vines yielded their first harvest in 2006. The winery prides itself on using only estate-grown grapes, cultivating and crafting Skimmerhorn wines without sourcing fruit from any other vineyard or region. This commitment to quality and authenticity has earned them the distinction of being an Estate Winery. As a small-batch winery, Skimmerhorn produces approximately 4500 cases per year.
In 2017, Janek Guminski and Ryan Burgis, from Calgary, became the new proprietors of Skimmerhorn Winery. Their passion for winemaking is evident in the team they have assembled.
Leading the winemaking team is James Cambridge, a graduate of the prestigious Niagara College wine program. James brings a wealth of experience, having honed his skills as head winemaker at renowned wineries such as Summerhill, Le Vieux Pin, La Stella, Fort Berens, and Backyard Vineyards. His dedication to his craft has earned him two Lieutenant Governor's Awards. James is excited to bring his expertise to Skimmerhorn, focusing on elevating the aromatic profiles of the white wines and enhancing the elegance of the reds.
The winery's General Manager, Treena Magee, is a Kootenay native who began her wine industry career as James' Cellar-Hand. She steadily rose through the ranks, holding positions as Sales Manager and Business Office Manager before assuming her current role. Both Treena and James are delighted to return to the Kootenays, where they can contribute their talents to Skimmerhorn Estate Winery while being closer to family.
