Rosewood’s founders, Eugene & Renata Roman, were early fans of Niagara wineries. As they sampled the region’s offerings, they developed a curiosity, passion and respect for the locally-produced wines. Eugene was a 2nd generation beekeeper and 1st generation Canadian, with family roots leading back to the Ukraine. Eugene’s knowledge of and experience with beekeeping instilled in him an understanding of the connection between the land and its bounty. This appreciation soon extended into a deep admiration for farming of the Niagara terroirs and the grape harvests from which distinctive Ontario wines were produced. Eugene began to dream big and pondered, perhaps, if one day he might open a winery of his own. And he did. Today... Rosewood is built on our family’s foundation in beekeeping and European heritage. Today, we create distinctive vineyard-inspired wines, produce natural honey and, as Niagara’s first winery-meadery, handcrafted, innovative meads. Our vineyards are sustainably farmed, with future generations at the forefront of our minds. We believe we are simply the acting stewards of our land and farm the land according to this philosophy. With over 75 years of beekeeping experience, our team also practices natural and sustainable beekeeping to ensure strong and healthy hives.
