Mira Winery

It all began with a phone call. Larry Hyde, one of the most prestigious grape growers in the Napa Valley, called winemaker Gustavo Gonzalez one summer morning in 2009 with an offer of some Hyde Vineyard Syrah. As fate would have it, this phone call came the day Gustavo as well as his long time friend, Tom Kaucic, met James T. Dyke, a lover of French Rhone wines and his son Jim “Bear” Dyke, Jr. Like stones being struck to start a fire, these gentlemen’s conversation generated the spark that flamed into Mira Winery. That spark came in the form of a challenge: can a Syrah exhibiting the level of complexity that James admires be produced from these Carneros grapes? Challenge accepted; and as the Syrah aged, it became abundantly clear that the answer is unequivocally yes. This accomplishment is the inspiration that founded Mira Winery.
