Agriculture has remained an important constant at Biltmore. It was William A.V. Cecil, George Vanderbilt’s grandson, who started the winemaking program at Biltmore in the 1970s as an extension of his grandfather’s vision for self-reliance and in keeping with the family legacy of hospitality and entertaining. Today, Biltmore Winery is the most visited winery in the United States. Using fruit harvested from estate vineyards and from partners in other premium growing regions, Biltmore’s diverse portfolio of wines suits both those who are new to the world of wine as well as the connoisseur in search of a distinctive varietal.
The luxurious family home of George and Edith Vanderbilt is a marvel of elegance and charm, as magnificent today as it was more than a century ago. Your self-guided house visit spans three floors and the basement. You’ll see displays of vintage clothing, accessories, art, furniture, and more that tell stories and illustrate the lives of the Vanderbilt family, their guests, and employees.
