Grenache Blanc is a variety of white wine grape that is related to the red grape Grenache. It is native to Spain and is now widely planted in other parts of the globe, including France, where it contributes to many balanced, aromatic white blend wines.
Grenache Blanc is known for its rich, full-bodied wines with flavors that can range from green apple and citrus in cooler climates to ripe peach and pineapple in hotter climates. It typically has a certain richness and plushness on the palate, due to its naturally low acidity and tendency to develop higher alcohol levels.
In terms of aroma, Grenache Blanc often carries notes of green apple, pear, lime, honeydew, and occasionally subtle herbal or white pepper undertones. It can be aged in oak to create more complex, spicy aromas or vinified in stainless steel to emphasize its fresh, fruity characteristics.
Grenache Blanc blends well with many other varieties and it is often combined with Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier, and Vermentino. In terms of food pairing, it goes exceptionally well with a variety of meals including seafood, grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, and dishes with creamy sauces.
