Chenin Blanc is a white wine grape variety originally from France but now grown in wine regions all around the world. It is known for its high acidity, making it incredibly versatile in the style of wine it can produce, from sweet dessert wines to dry, crisp and light-bodied wines to sparkling wines.
The flavor profile of Chenin Blanc depends largely on how it has been produced and where it has been grown. In cooler climates, it often presents flavors of green apple, pear, chamomile and anise, while in warmer climates it can exude flavors of peach, honey, and tropical fruits. Its high acid content also lends it to have a noticeable minerality.
In terms of its appearance, Chenin Blanc wine is usually a pale straw yellow, but can deepen to a rich gold if it's been aged or is a late-harvest sweet version. If it's made in a rustic or traditional style, it might have a slightly amber hue.
Its wines are known for their ability to age well, with the best examples able to develop complex notes of honey, nuts, dried fruits, and smoke with time. The nose can often hover around floral, apple, pear and quince, expanding to apricot, beeswax and honey as they age.
