Coombsville is a wine sub-region located in the southeastern corner of Napa Valley, California, USA. It was officially granted the status of an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in December 2011. The region is recognized for its distinct microclimate which is influenced by marine breezes from the nearby San Pablo Bay, leading to cooler daily temperatures and creating an ideal location for growing wine grapes with longer growing seasons.
The soils in Coombsville are volcanic in origin, mixed with well-drained sedimentary soil providing good conditions for bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This region is well known for producing wines with strong character, depth, and the ability to age and mature gracefully.
Coombsville offers a less commercial, more intimate wine tasting experience. Many of the wineries here are family-owned with smaller production and unique wine styles. Despite its relatively smaller size, the Coombsville AVA is home to several notable vineyards and wineries including Meteor Vineyard, Covert Estate, Ancien Wines, and Caldwell Vineyard among others. Most of the wineries require appointments for tastings, offering visitors a more personalized experience.
